Record Verdict Procured by Stephen Murphy & Daniel O’Toole Profiled in Press

Denis Hamill, of the New York Daily News, profiles what he calls the “$33M of justice for a tragic survivor.” This refers to the $32.7 million verdict, the largest non-medical malpractice verdict in Long Island history, which Stephen Murphy and Daniel O’Toole achieved for their client, Jimmy Dunne.
Dunne, a 56 year old veteran, was helping at the scene of an accident when a drug-impaired driver plowed through the police barricade, slamming into Dunne and throwing him 30 feet in the air. After being plunged into a coma and requiring emergency brain surgery, Dunne now requires round-the-clock care.
On December 12, 13 days before Christmas, the jury deliberated for 90 minutes and returned with $32.7 million of the $35 million that Murphy and O’Toole had sought.
