Block O’Toole & Murphy, LLP, Listed in New York Law Journal’s Top New York Settlements of 2013
The New York Law Journal published the “Top New York Settlements of 2013” in its December 23, 2013, edition. The list reports the top results from all over New York State. Block O’Toole & Murphy, LLP, a New York City personal injury law firm, appeared once again at the top of the list as it did in 2012.
Block O’Toole & Murphy returned 15 top settlements in 2013. No other firm had more than 10 results in the list. In addition, no other firm had more “Top 25” results than Block O’Toole & Murphy. The firm had the biggest results in New York State in the individual categories of workplace accidents, right turn motor vehicle accidents, left turn motor vehicle accidents, railroad crossing accidents, crosswalk motor vehicle accidents and broadside motor vehicle accidents.
Surprisingly, the results reported in the December 23 edition did not include the biggest settlement in the state in 2013 – a result obtained by Block O’Toole & Murphy partner Daniel P. O’Toole. The case, Zouaoui v. The State of New York (Court of Claims, Claim Number 115405) resulted in the largest personal injury settlement paid by a municipal entity in the history of the state — $22.5 million.
Attorney David L. Scher, a partner in the firm, said, “We are very proud of our firm’s top 2013 settlements because each one represents an injured client who we helped through a difficult time and for whom we provided lasting financial security.”
Block O’Toole & Murphy, LLP, represents victims of construction accidents, car accidents, pedestrian accidents, medical malpractice and other types of negligence. Over the years, the firm has obtained well over $850 million for those injured as a result of others’ negligence. The top results for 2013 were drawn from data published in Verdict Search, an ALM Publication.
