A multi-vehicle collision occurred in North Bellmore, Long Island, leading to the hospitalization of four adults and two children. The incident unfolded yesterday at approximately 7 a.m. near the intersection of Jerusalem Avenue and Newbridge Road.
According to officials, a Walmart tractor trailer collided with another vehicle, causing the tractor trailer to overturn into the parking lot of a Stop & Shop. The other vehicle struck parked cars in its vicinity. Several vehicles were totaled as a result, and six people were taken to nearby hospitals. We hope the victims make a full and speedy recovery in the aftermath of this terrible collision.
News12 reported that some of the town’s residents believe that a traffic light needs to be installed in the area. “We have so many accidents out here all the time,” Angela Scarpinito tells News12. “It just plays a smaller part in a bigger picture.”
Law enforcement officials are still looking into what caused the crash.
Contributing Factors in Collisions
Various factors can contribute to automobile collisions. While there are instances where accidents occur due to external circumstances beyond the driver’s influence, such as defective vehicle components or inadequate road maintenance, most collisions in the United States are caused by human error. According to a study conducted by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), the majority of crashes stem from driver-related causes, including errors, fatigue, distractions, and impairment. In fact, these factors were found to be present in around 90% of the observed crashes analyzed in the study, highlighting their significant role in crash causation.
Crashes Involving Large Trucks
Because of their immense size, tractor trailers can be particularly dangerous on the road. Collisions involving large trucks are more likely to result in catastrophic injuries – even death. This is so serious, in fact, that tractor trailers and other commercial vehicles are governed by a unique set of rules and regulations set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Companies and their employees operating commercial vehicles must adhere to these rules, which include regular vehicle maintenance and inspections, mandatory driver training and driver background checks, and limiting the number of consecutive driving hours for vehicle operators.
In the event of a crash involving a commercial truck, it’s best to consult a commercial vehicle accident lawyer to discuss your legal options after an injury. Commercial vehicle accident cases are legally complex, as there are additional laws and processes surrounding these cases. Additionally, multiple parties may be held liable for your injuries and other damages. Successfully navigating these cases often requires the experience and expertise of a skilled commercial vehicle accident attorney.
