New York Carpenters Union Lawyers
Representing Injured Carpenters in New York City
The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, usually known as the UBC, was founded in 1881 as the nature of work in the building trades began to change. Larger, taller buildings, more specialization in the trades and bigger projects changed the nature of the trade.
At first the union was a strong advocate for an eight-hour day, calling strikes in 1886 and 1890 that attracted members and solidified the union’s position as a strong advocate for members of the building trades. Today, significant changes in the industry have resulted in a new kind of carpenter, and the union offers training programs to help members keep up with the new methods and materials that are common in today’s construction industry.
Today’s union represents carpenters and those in related trades, including:
- General carpenters
- Millwrights
- Floor coverers
- Interior systems carpenters
- Lathers
- Framing and residential carpenters
- Pile drivers
- Millworkers and cabinetmakers
At the New York City law firm of Block O’Toole and Murphy, our attorneys are proud to represent members of the UBC who were injured on the job. We also represent the families of union members who died while working. If an injury or death was caused by negligence, victims or their families may be eligible for compensation.
