Lawyers for the International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators in New York
Representing Members of Insulators’ Union
The International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers is a union that represents workers in construction trades such as mechanical insulation, fire stopping, asbestos and lead mitigation/abatement, sound attenuation and specialty fabrications for custom installations. Most union insulators are also qualified for LEED certified projects.
Based in Maryland, the union has over 100 locals throughout the United States, including several in New York. Advocating for workers since 1903, the union was founded in St. Louis and adopted its current name a year later.
The union’s purpose is to help members obtain employment, defend their rights and advance their interests through education and cooperation. The union provides classed to help members upgrade their skills and enhance their knowledge of relevant topics such as fire stopping, green insulation, and energy audits.
Over the years, the organization has been instrumental in raising awareness about the health dangers of asbestos, a substance that was commonly used in insulation until the 1990s. By lobbying and conducting publicity campaigns, the union helped gain medical and public acceptance of the idea that asbestos causes cancer.
